Database Technology Degrees
Database technology education programs teach you how to structure and manage the collection of records or data that makes up a computer database. You can learn about relational databases, hierarchical databases, and network databases through programs in management information systems (MIS), computer science, and information science. MIS degrees emphasize business, management, and business computing, whereas computer science and information science programs focus on designing, programming, and maintaining database management systems (DBMS).
Database Technology degree programs are offered at the certificate, associate, bachelor and master’s degree levels. An associate’s degree in database technology requires 2 years of study and will enable graduates to find entry-level positions in this field. A bachelor’s degree is a 4 years program that will train students in programming, developing and operating databases, SQL, backup and recovery, and database security. Master’s degree programs will further educate students through advanced studies in database technology, and will train them to fill managerial and research positions.
Database Technology Job Opportunities
All organizations use databases to store information about products, customers, market trends, and other factors affecting business. Because of this, the job outlook for those working in the field of database technology will be good throughout the next decade. In fact, employment of database administrators is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2018.
