Digital Graphics & Drafting Technology

Digital Graphics & Drafting Technology Degrees

Degree programs in digital graphics and drafting technology will allow you to combine your passion for computer technology and art. Students will learn how to use computer aided drafting (CAD) systems to create 2D and 3D images for residential and commercial drafting purposes.

Most computer-aided design (CAD) programs grant associate degrees. Through these 2 year programs, you learn how to create technical drawings of products, machinery, and buildings. Some programs cover architectural design. Others specialize in mechanical design. Through lectures and hands-on lab work, you’ll learn how to use the latest CAD software tools to create a professional portfolio of your work. Certificate and diploma programs are also available for those who want to learn drafting and CAD techniques for entry-level employment opportunities. Drafting certificate programs vary in length, but generally take about a year to complete.

Drafting Technology Job Opportunities

CAD programs prepare you to become a skilled CAD operator, mechanical draftsperson, architectural drafter, or component designer. Employment opportunities for these jobs depend on the needs of industry in your local area. Employers will be most interested in drafters who have the abilities to adapt to the ever-changing technology, and can apply their knowledge to a broad range of responsibilities.
