Indiana Wesleyan University was founded in 1920 as an evangelical Christian liberal arts college in the Wesleyan tradition. The heritage of the IWU has been to prepare students both for being and for doing – that is, to produce students who have, through various majors and professional programs, developed as whole persons and prepared professionally to contribute meaningfully to their communities and professions.
Within the state of Indiana, IWU has become the fastest-growing university and the second-largest private university overall, as well as the the largest of the 101 members of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, IWU employs over 100 full-time faculty, over 400 full-time administrative and staff members, and over 700 adjunct faculty members.
LEAP (Leadership Education for Adult Professionals) is another name for IWU’s College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS), which was founded in 1985 to meet the needs of adult students through learning opportunities that apply to the constantly changing workplace. LEAP/CAPS now has more than 23,000 graduates and a current enrollment of more than 9,000 full-time students. Graduates of Indiana Wesleyan University’s adult program are representative of learning partnerships with more than 500 employers, school districts, corporations, health-care agencies and organizations.
