Master of Arts in Education in Educational Leadership (M.A.Ed.)

The Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) program is designed to prepare graduates for responsible roles in Educational Leadership in Higher Education. The foundation courses of the MAEd program include a broad array of subjects, all oriented toward the challenges and problems encountered in a modern educational environment.

In the MAEd program, students develop core practical and academic skills in analysis, oral and written communication, problem solving, team-building, and computer technology, through courses that examine the historical, philosophical, psychological, social, technical, and theoretical aspects of education. MAEd students focus their study on current issues and developments in Higher Education today.

The College of Education and Human Development has three goals directing all of the intended program outcomes for its graduate students:

  • Provide a relevant curriculum that includes the sets of competencies that prepare students to meet the demands of current practice.
  • Develop reflective practitioners capable of research-based decision-making.
  • Provide an environment that is conducive to a free exchange of ideas within a climate of respect.

Program Outcomes

Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to design, implement, and evaluate programs, curricula, and activities relevant to the profession and which have a measurable impact on student learning.

Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to conduct research, write, speak, and listen effectively and with integrity through traditional media and instructional technology.

Students will be able to articulate key philosophies, theories, and values that pertain to educational leadership.

Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to motivate and supervise others, to help build teams, and to manage them to complete meaningful goals.

Students will be able to demonstrate their abilities to evaluate and use research.

Students will be able to demonstrate their abilities to design and conduct research and evaluation projects.

Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to understand and work effectively within culturally diverse settings.
