Argosy University
Associate of Applied Science in Histotechnology (A.A.S.)

Histotechnology is the study of cells, tissues, and systems. In a clinical laboratory setting, the histotechnician utilizes technical and creative skills to prepare thin slices of human, animal, or plant tissue for microscopic examination. These tissue specimens are examined by pathologists for diagnosis of disease, malignancy, or body dysfunction.

To prepare for this intriguing field of medical exploration, students learn histochemistry, microtechnique, and laboratory methods. Graduates of this two-year program are prepared to enter the world of clinical medicine and are eligible to sit for the ASCP Histotechnician Board of Registry exam. Individuals entering the program with a bachelor’s degree including specific science requirements are eligible to take certain elective classes which will prepare them to become histotechnologists.

As with all Argosy University programs in the College of Health Sciences, most graduates of this program who choose to work in their chosen fields will be successfully placed within six months of graduation.
